The Willow Tree.: Skopje to Philadelphia (2025)
by Esther Baker & Iskra Shukarova
This work is site-responsive, collaborative, and centers the willow tree, and ritual as performance. We use performance to time travel and ritual to connect with ancestors and land. This interdisciplinary project takes place in the gallery and in the park where there is a willow tree. We move towards resilience, radical tenderness, and rooted connection.
This project part of the MOT Festival and residency/creation took place at Centre Jadro, Skopje, North Macedonia.
This project is supported by the GPS/Global Practice Sharing Program of Movement Research with funding from the Trust for Mutual Understanding. Special thanks to Peter Scioli/International Interdisciplinary Artist Consortium.
